As if drawing nourishment directly from the flow of manna from above in this perspective, a stand of great hedge-nettle (Stachys chamisonis var. coolevae) thrives in the cool wake of Wahe Falls’ 75-foot veil, here rendered wispy-thin by its namesake creek’s low mid-summer flow. This is perhaps my favorite composition from this utterly fine afternoon (bruised knee, lost lens cap, and waterlogged left boot notwithstanding), and contrasted with the energy-sapping hustle and bustle of daily life we all fall victim to at one time or another, taking in scenes like this are like food to my soul.
