October leaves add a little zest to the verdant canyon of Gorton Creek. In the distance is 10-foot (3m)-tall Emerald Falls, a graceful little tumble that divides into three at sub-maximal flood. Ascending the bouldery vale, it became readily apparent that the falls' modest elegance was a promise of treasures waiting to be discovered beyond.
