As many times as I've hiked the Wahkeena Falls-Multnomah Falls loop, it still stands as one of my faves in the Gorge--and it's not just for the soft-serve ice cream that awaits you at the lodge (but hell yeah that helps). Fairy Falls is like that favorite song that you never grow tired of, or that favorite pillow that never lets you down. As such, I try not to take the hike up to the lacy cascade for granted as merely a fallback option but rather more like an opportunity to see it in new light, angles, or botanical attire. On this occasion, I started at the foot of the falls, where the trail switchbacks left at its waters' confluence with Wahkeena Creek, and scrambled up the loose talus slope that comprises its base, stopping here and there to marvel at how such a diminutive waterfall never fails to amaze.
