The Gift of Water

A dedication I penned to the entirety of the staff of
the neurotrauma intensive care unit at the hospital system with whom I got my start as an independent practitioner. I worked alongside this dedicated and immensely skilled team to help support the absolute sickest of the sick and their families. It was thus with heavy heart that my time here necessarily came to a close, but I'll carry the memories of some of my toughest yet most rewarding clinical experiences with me forever.
There’s a not insignificant part of my heart that feels a bit like it’s abandonment, even as my head knows I tried everything in my meager power to make staying possible. To my fellow foot soldiers and friends of [omitted], although I’m setting sail for other seas, please know that I will always consider this institution and campus as the birthplace of my career. More than you will ever know, you have taught me about what it means to truly care, to be a steward of my privileged position, and to help give a voice and sense of direction to those who have lost or may never have had either. There will not be a day that I don’t harken back to my days here, drawing upon some privileged piece of meaning or wisdom I could never have gotten anywhere else, from anyone else. May you always go forward with intention, goodwill, and a sense of sanctity and fulfillment in your healing endeavors.
With immeasurable admiration and gratitude,
Tula
