Ahhh...at long last Spring 2013 has finally entered stage left in the grand Pacific Northwest, and it's off to a rip-roaringly green start after a wet but not particularly cold winter that spared the resident foliage from the browning effects of frostbite during their cold-season torpor. It was good hiking again with my buddy Jeff Chen, who's finishing an internal medicine purgatory I mean residency at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta...I've found it helps temper people's perception of your insanity to surround yourself with obsessive-compulsive compadres whose straightjackets are cinched a notch or two or three tighter than your own (that includes you, TJ Thorne). On this fine but typically soggy Saturday, Jeff (who's actually in this scene, somewhere...) and I did a day-long waterfall blitzkrieg through the Great Green Gorge, hitting Multnomah, Horsetail, Ponytail, Wahclella, Starvation, Cabin Creek, Hole-In-The-Wall, Lancaster, Wahkeena, Fairy, and Latourell, in that willy-nilly order. It was exhausting yet fun, but next time, dude, carry a lens cloth and an umbrella, wouldja?
