Promise

Early morning sun greets Upper Butte Creek Falls the same way I greet early mornings: gleaming meekly through the tangle of trunks and twigs in fits and starts for quite some time before the light comes on to stay. I wish I could say I do it with the same grace and elegance with which Mother Nature performs her daily ritual, but for me it'd be quite the kicking-and-screaming affair if I'd actually had the energy for it. Instead, it usually takes me two stiff cups of French pressed joe before I can even begin to think about facing the day. Of course, the promise of sights like these, privy to those willing to set out well before sunlight breaches the dark of night, helps a lot.
Nods to Christina Angquico and Andrew Kumler here--the resemblance to their comps is uncanny but completely unintentional, though it's clear their images left a deep imprint on my subconscious. (Looks like their shots were both taken on the same date and from the same spot, but I think that violates the laws of spacetime, doesn't it??)
