Running On Empty
Oregon · USA
A long exposure quells the ever-churning waters of Eagle Creek, belying the utter chaos transpiring beyond the edges of the frame. The dramatic canyon of Punch Bowl Falls is necessarily a shared Eden, the resplendent crown jewel of the Eagle Creek Trail network, easily the Columbia River Gorge's most popular. I thought maybe the showers forecast for the afternoon might keep the hordes at bay, but I should know by now that Oregonians laugh in the face of looming rain clouds with mere bemusement: Everybody and their mother (including mine!) seemed to converged on Punch Bowl on this day. Between rambunctious 20-somethings blasting their boombox (because as we all know, the first step to really enjoying nature is to drown out its annoying sounds altogether), hyperactive dogs, and photographers (present company included) bumbling and stumbling their way into and out of each other's viewfinders, it was a near-miracle being able to capture this classic scene (click the image to view on black).
