Abiqua Falls thunders down 92 feet over the brim of its gorgeous columnar basalt amphitheater into the emerald plunge pool below. Nature offered me yet another lesson in humility here, as I was begrudging the waves of pine needles and foam floating in the foreground that just wouldn’t budge, much to my chagrin. Instead of completely obscuring them as I’d intended, the 30-second-long exposure instead rendered them into soft diagonal lines that ended up lending some much-needed visual flow and interest to the foreground and overall composition. Indeed, without them there, I think this shot otherwise might have been destined for the cutting room floor...
