X Marks the Spot

Dusk descends on Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain 800 feet above Mirror Lake, drawing closing curtains on a great day of hiking and camaraderie with über-talented friends Erin Babnik, Alex Noriega, and TJ Thorne. Photography-hampering sunny skies largely prevailed, but there were enough lingering wisps of clouds to keep things interesting into the evening. I took this shot from an exposed outcrop to the east of where they and several other people were basking in the fading light of another gorgeous Oregon sunset. It was only when I started developing this image back at home that I noticed Erin and Alex had unwittingly crossed their trekking poles from my vantage point. Apropos, I think, given the incredible body of work these two have produced: If you're in the hunt for photographic treasures, X most definitely marks the spot.
