Punch Bowl Falls · Eagle Creek · Columbia River Gorge · Bonneville · Oregon · USA
Seven-minute exposure of Punch Bowl Falls under exceptionally low-water conditions. I'd been visualizing this image for quite some time--even before the big Douglas-fir on the right fell into the punchbowl--but the calm and unobstructed waters needed to pull it off never quite materialized on my many previous visits. The water level and flow were so low on this day, in fact, that I'm convinced one could've rock-hopped up the creek with completely dry feet from the fish hatchery half a mile up to the trailhead proper. During monochrome processing, I wanted to emphasize the form of the water column and its reflection yet retain just enough complementary detail in the surrounding features to keep everything in context and not make it too abstract of a composition.
