Dusk advances and haze rolls in from the west as Mt. Hood surveys her southern province from atop a stratus throne, irrefutably proclaiming its dominion despite its silence. It is 39 miles (62 km) distant as the crow flies from this vantage point atop Bull of the Woods Mountain, which, at 5,523 feet (1,683 m), still doesn't attain half Hood's height.
