June Lake Trail · Gifford Pinchot National Forest · Washington · USA
Striking lines draped the landscape during our attempted snowshoe trek to June Lake, in a phenomenon I still have yet to find an explanation for (though I think it may have something to do with temperature fluctuations about the freezing point). I still have a bit of PTSD from this hike due to the development of severe right knee pain that I feared was indicative of permanent damage (fortunately not the case). I think it was a case of poor snowshoeing technique--trying to lift my shoes clear of the snow and plopping them down rather than just shuffling along--that caused some torque on the joint. Looking forward to revisiting the slopes and exploring some more winter wonderland scenes this season!
