Swollen by winter rains to monstrous proportions, South Falls roars its unequivocal dominion over its surrounds as it plunges 177 feet over the brim of its basalt amphitheater and slams into the turbulent pool below. Double Falls's two-tiered plunge bests it by a foot in height, but it's a decidedly slimmer and less imposing presence than its thundering sibling. Taken during an all too brief but undeniably fun visit to Silver Falls State Park with Holly Pedersen and Bill Ratcliffe.
