Spring vingette
The spring leaves of Acer palmatum ‘Shin Deshōjō’ emerge a vibrant salmon red, forming the fiery focal point of our woodland swale before the hill climbs steeply beneath an arbor where evergreen clematis and star jasmine are still trying to get established. Spires of native small camas (Camassia quamash) adorned with lavender-blue flowers rise up between chartreuse tufts of Japanese forest grass (Hakonechloa macra ‘All Gold’) to lend some welcome coolness to the scene, bathed here in the soft light of an early May morning.
