Talk about a shot in the dark.
We were on our way back from a hike along Pinnacle Ridge to Dollar Lake (a scenic but not necessarily photogenic trail…and teeny-tiny Dollar Lake really should’ve been named Nickel Lake…), arriving at the car a few minutes before sunset and missing out on some sweet color on the Mt. Hood as we were navigating the twisty tree-lined road back. A few miles from the trailhead, though, some incoming clouds brought the sky to life with shades of lavender and magenta. I raced to set up a comp or two as the light quickly faded, and this epic sunset proved a nice epilogue to good, tough day of hiking.
