Had this extremely popular lake to myself on a chilly mid-autumn weeknight, hoping to catch that 'iconic' shot of Mount Hood reflected in the lake. What I didn't know till much later was that choppy waters are the norm in the evenings here, while calm rules the dawn. I wandered along the shoreline hoping to salvage the day's hike and came across this ring of stones, apparent remnants of an act of whimsy. Light was fading fast, and I took my first shot at light painting with a five-minute twilight exposure. The shaft of light at the 1 o’clock position of the rocks is reflected moonlight, a nice finishing touch to the chilly but beautiful evening.
