An early season opening of Lost Lake Resort following a mild winter and plentiful rough-skinned newts swimming lazily in the sunlit shallows betrayed the cold lurking beneath the lake's undulating surface. I (perhaps needlessly) shucked my boots and socks and went knee-deep into the icy chill, trying to get this low-angle shot of majestic Mt. Hood that I failed to snag on my last trip out here due to obtrusive cloud cover. Fortunately the water was just calm enough that the camera and lens managed to stay dry, positioned just a couple of inches above the glassy surface. The sunset lighting wasn't great, but any day at this lake's a great day. Numb toes and all.
