A somewhat alarming lapse in cognition brought me to the convenient drive-up shores of Trillium Lake rather than on a predawn hike to Mirror Lake as I'd intended, owing to a terrible miscalculation of wake-up time that put me on the road an hour later than I needed to be. The clouds and predawn light (though brief) were terrific, and though I certainly took a fair number of obligatory generic reflection shots, I also was hoping to make up for my earlier silent-but-deadly brain fart by putting a little different spin on this iconic and über-oft-shot location. But alas, in short order the sun cleared the horizon, magenta and pink hues in the clouds gave way to broader daylight, and wind and waterfowl conspired to mar the lake's perfectly mirrored surface. So I packed up to head for home, a little disappointed with my rather pedestrian efforts to that point. Looking back over my shoulder, though, I saw some kaleidoscopic possibilities in the fast-moving clouds tracking east across the sky and nabbed this 2-minute exposure before finally calling it a day. Now, why exactly am I telling you all this? Well now, dammit...
I forget.
