Ursa Major
Mt. Hood from Timberline Trail near Bald Mountain · Mt. Hood National Forest · Oregon · USA
2013 was the year of the bear grass, with off-white plumes atop stalks up to five feet tall blooming en masse throughout subalpine regions of the Northwest. This happens in roughly 5-7 year cycles or when environmental conditions are favorable, so it's not clear when the next encore will occur. What is clear is that they were a beautiful accompaniment on our sunny hike from Bald Mountain along the Pacific Crest Trail leading up to the Timberline Trail and the bold western face of Mt. Hood.
