Interlude
Upper McCord Creek Falls · McCord Creek · John B. Yeon State Corridor · Columbia River Gorge · Bonneville · Oregon · USA
The full story of this day unfolds in the description that accompanies "Blue Light Special," the making of which succeeded this brief foray into the unexpectedly misty and moody Columbia River Gorge. Earlier at the base of Elowah Falls, which drops precipitously just downstream from the 64-foot-tall double veil of Upper McCord Creek Falls, my buddy Brian Duty and I had the ignominious pleasure of learning his Canon 6D's operational quirks on the fly. And quick learners we were: The twenty or so minutes it took for us to realize the reason we couldn't slow the camera's shutter speed down less than 1/30th of a second was because we'd somehow launched the camera in movie rather than stills mode is testament to the fine education we received at Oregon Health & Sciences University some 12 years prior.
Thank goodness we're both doctors, or we might still be down there...
(Note: The fuschia spot just above the right segment of the falls is a hiker I chose to leave in the image for scale.)
