While the promise of a grand vista of the Dungeness Valley, Puget Sound, Hood Canal, and the Olympic Mountains vaporized like every water molecule atop the thickly socked-in summit at Marmot Pass, the trail to it remained a delight. This modest scene nicely typified the understated beauty all along the way, with the rather generously-named Big Quilcene River (neither big nor of river-like proportions, if you ask me) keeping our ears company while our eyes delighted in the sight of massive hemlock, cedars, and firs infused with a soft green understory.
