The close of another glorious summer day sets Mt. Hood aglow as seen from the iconic and aptly named Mirror Lake, one of the few bodies of water in this scenic wilderness area that consistently offers a postcard-worthy reflection of Oregon's tallest peak. As I was processing this image and recalling the peaceful ending to another fun day out on the trails with Mom--who's been a tireless hiker for the past 19 years--I realized that the view I was capturing won't always be what it is: It will only be a matter of time before the tree line of Pacific silver and noble firs across the way will gain the mountaintop, and this vantage point will no longer be one of my favored photographic destinations as it is now. So if you're in the area, come around and stay a while, at least through the setting sun, and catch the light show while you still can...
