Mid-April ushers in another green season in the Columbia River Gorge. Softly lit by an overcast sky, Gorton Creek meanders through this Douglas-fir and red alder forest past this view from the sturdy footbridge that marks the eastern terminus of the 35-mile-long Gorge Trail #400. Along the left bank and beyond, the trail from the campground winds past Emerald Falls before giving way to the wet but picturesque scramble up to the base of Gorton Creek Falls.
