Eagle Creek Trail · Columbia River Gorge · Bonneville · Oregon · USA
A Douglas fir stands alone in the chasm of the Eagle Creek drainage, separated from its cedar, hemlock, and fir contemporaries rooted beyond the rushing waters. It appears to almost cower under the scrutiny of the sun's spotlight--perhaps in instinctive reaction to its obvious imperfections--but it glows with a radiance and beauty made all the more singular and poignant by the very presence of those flaws.
And what of you? What do you do when the light shines in your direction and threatens to expose you for all your blemishes and faults? My advice: acknowledge rather than admit to them, work to correct those worthy of correction, and embrace the ones that aren't as components of your unique wholeness. Those that can appreciate the beauty in who you are will stand by you and celebrate with you; those that can't, won't, and your time and energies will automatically be saved for those worthy of their investment.
